A few weeks ago I wrote about the Scratchpad Series, a new reading series premiering at Mama’s Crowbar this April. When I posted the announcement, I neglected to mention that another reading is taking place up on Munjoy Hill next week.
On April 7th (next Wednesday for those keeping score) the North Star Music Cafe is hosting a reading titled Heroic Tales from Portland. The event, put on by local women’s writers group 306 Reasons, is a free reading of short stories from local authors. Writers include Solange Kellerman, Sarah Franklin, Patty Ryan, Julie Vohs and Marty Pottenger, and the free event begins at 7PM on the 7th.
According to the event planners, there will be a wide variety of topics over the course of the evening.
Stories include cars in lakes, girl-eating lions, Trenton New Jersey, lost sons, dads in t-shirts and mythic bingo games. Their tales span the 1940s to the present, from the quirky to the heroic, the transcendent to the hysterical.
It sounds like it should be a fun evening, and it is exciting to have some short story events going on up on Portland’s East End. Plus, how can you argue with free?
